Al Gore: “I wish I had half the set that Hugo Chavez has.”
Nashville, Tennessee – In an exclusive interview with Red Tractor USA today, former Vice President Al Gore lamented that if he had had half the balls that Hugo Chavez has when he was running for president he could have been easily occupying the White House today.
Gore’s comments where prompted by the recent statements of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in his speech at the United Nations on September 20, 2006. In that fiery rant Chavez told the United Nations General Assembly in reference to George W. Bush that “The devil came here yesterday, yesterday the devil came here. Right here. And it smells of sulfur still today.”
Gore told Red Tractor USA “I wish I had half the set that Hugo Chavez has” and that he totally approved of Chavez’s comments. Gore also stated that when he first heard those comments he said to himself “Damn, that’s what I was trying to say all along. I just never had the balls to go quite that far.”
Asked if he understood why some prominent Democrats rushed to George Bush’s defense and sternly reprimanded Chavez for his comments, Gore had no explanation other than that perhaps Chavez’s comments should not have been made in our “own house”. Gore also noted that Chavez’s speech drew an ovation of around 40 seconds while the day before the United Nations assembly clapped for only about 10 seconds after George Bush’s own speech.
As far his lamenting about Hugo Chavez having the balls to make those comments, Gore said that at the time of his failed bid to become President, “I often had those very thoughts but was afraid to act on them”. Gore also told Red Tractor USA that it is no coincidence that both Hugo Chavez and George Bush are oilmen as well as presidents of their respective countries. Gore stated "Shit, if I only had some oil I could be President”.
For that matter, from what he could tell, Hugo Chavez seems considerably smarter than his American counterpart. Gore was particularly impressed by Chavez citing a book by author Noam Chomsky and seriously doubts that George Bush has even read a book since college.
