Bus driver fired for giving Bush the finger
11/20/2007 - Washington DC – Have the urge to flip off resident Bush? You may want to think twice before you give Bush the middle finger salute. A school bus driver in Washington D.C. was recently fired after making the obscene gesture at the president.
The incident occurred last week as a school bus, returning from a field trip to the Washington monument, passed the Presidential motorcade. All the children on the bus waved at the President in his limousine. With the windows down, President Bush and his passenger, out-going Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, waved back. The bus driver, Howard Hinton, then proceeded to give the President the finger out his driver-side window.
According to Washington D.C. school superintendent Lisa Murphy, the driver was fired shortly after the Secret Service reported the incident to the school district. The superintendent stated that “Regardless of his politics, we expect our driver to set a good example for the students and act in a professional manner at all times.”
Reached at the union hall where he planned to file a grievance, bus driver Hinton told Red Tractor USA that he was still excited from the November seventh election in which Democrats decidedly won majorities in both houses of Congress.
Howard then pointed out his perfect employment record as a bus driver, and said he “was overcome with the urge to flip off President Bush, especially since his window was rolled down. I have been driving a school bus in this town for a long time" he continued, "and I think that George Bush is the worst President ever.”
According to a spokesman for the Secret Service, President Bush is often on the receiving end of that gesture when in public. This was the first time that he could recall that a bus driver with a full load of children flipped him off.
